Holiday Getaway | Staying at the Pullman Dakar Teranga

I spent the last weeks in the past year solo-traveling in the beautiful city of Dakar, Senegal, and it was exactly what I needed. I took a 4 hour flight from Lagos to Dakar and drove about an hour to The Pullman Hotel.

This was technically my first solo trip- as a tourist, not counting the two times I’ve MOVED to different countries. I had a couple of days between my Christmas visit home and the start of the new year, so i jumped at the chance to extend my trip for 6 days and have a little secluded getaway before the New Year…

Pullman Dakar Teranga is conveniently located in the city center, overlooking Dakar bay and on a private beach. It’s a 5-star resort style hotel that boasts high ceilings and lots of intimate features within its suites that make it feel like a home away from home. When I arrived, I walked in to a large but quite literally the coziest amber-lit lounge I’ve ever seen. It was particularly magical at Christmas, and it made it very hard to want to leave…

I really recommend booking one of the suites with a view of the ocean if you’re after something extra special - and if your budget allows, of course! My room was simple and beautifully decorated, and the huge sash windows opened onto a small terrace overlooking parts of the local neighborhood, its rooftops, and a partial view of the Atlantic Ocean and Goreé Island.

Along with all the usual hotel amenities, the hotel facilities include a Turkish spa, private beach, pool club, and delicious food service. You can book bespoke treatments ranging from facials to body massages. I didn’t have time to book any treatments while i was there, but the rooms were stunning and i heard nothing but good things!

The one thing i did make time for was food! I will always make time for food. The restaurant menu here was so well crafted and diverse.

I think its a more budget-friendly decision to book your room with breakfast included or breakfast/lunch/dinner included. For the first 3 days i decided not to because i wanted to make sure i made the effort to eat the local food ie. outside the hotel

…But the other 3 days were split between spending the days exploring the city and the evenings staying in. Honestly, between relaxing by the pool, drinks in the lounge, and dinners - there really isn’t much need to leave the hotel if what you needed was to shut yourself away for a little new years escapism…

Still on foods, I spent two nights eating at two famous restaurants in the city - by famous, i mean, they had rave reviews based on my TikTok research.

Overall, the food in Dakar is amazing!

Quick Notes

  • Learn some french

  • be polite to the locals—be polite in general LOL

If you’ve never been to Dakar before and you only have a few days in the city - Pullman Dakar Teranga has a pretty unbeatable location! The hotel is right at the corner of the Place de I’Independence. It is only a few minutes drive from attractions like the House of Slaves Museum, the IFAN Museum of African Arts, the port leading to the Island of Goreé, smaller shopping sites and local markets.

I really enjoyed my time there and I wanted to stay a while longer. But reality called…ughh! This is the first of many solo trips and what a great start to the new year…

I hope you enjoyed the compilation of photos too – I’m really enjoying the photography element of blogging at the moment. There are times during the winter months where it can feel like a bit of a slog, but I can slowly feel my enthusiasm coming back. It’s always reignited by being somewhere new – whether it’s a new city or simply a new hotel room…
