BookShelf Makeover | Home DIY

If your bookcase is in need of a makeover (or like in my case, you’re trying to cover up a mistake), but you have limited funds or feeling creative πŸ˜€, this easy DIY bookshelf makeover tutorial might just be the inspiration you need to get started on your own project!

I’ve had these bookcases for 4 and a half years now - they’re Ikea’s Gersby Bookcases - and up-cycling these two was so much fun.

Little back story: I set them up with my brother when I first got them, and someone (him) didn’t follow the last part of the instructions and put the back cover on the wrong way. So I’ve had two shelves with a white covering (the correct way) at the back and two with a brown covering (the wrong way). We kept it rthat way for a while but I decided to cover it up in this new space.

Everyone…meet my up-cycled bookcases.

I’m so in love with this part of the apartment! I can’t stop staring at it!

I still can’t quite believe it’s all mine!πŸ˜€

Enough dilly-dallying. Let’s me show you how this happened and what the bookcases looked like before!

I didn’t want to go through the process of painting or having to buy paint for bookcases that I probably won’t have for long - especially if I keep up this book buying hobby of mine. Seriously, guys…get a cheap hobby.

Note: You can substitute the gorilla glue spray for a wallpaper glue/applicator. I used wallpaper for mine and it was not sticky that’s why I had to use a glue spray. If you choose to use contact paper, it should come with an adhesive back.

Process

The process took 1 hour in total to complete.

I started by laying the bookcase down on the floor.

Et voila!

What do you think of this makeover? Do you think this has given you enough inspiration to makeover a shelf of your own in the future? Let me know in the comments
