4 Things I'm Doing This Weekend
Guys, can you believe it’s already the middle of March?! Honestly, this week just zoomed by for me, and my whole “living in the present” resolve was tried and tested but the devil is a liar. We shall forge on! I just keep muttering the scripture “…do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries”. I’m leaving it to Jesus to go ahead of me and take care of all my cares.
So even though my week was a little loopy and sad, I consider it a blessing that my slow week is ending on a somewhat active (and fun) note. Anyway, here I am doing a quick check-in, to let y’all in on four exciting things I’ll be checking out this weekend!
1. Table Talk Wine and Cocktail Hour
Lately, I’ve been using the app Meetup; don’t know if you’ve heard of it? But it’s a way to explore and find people or groups in your area that have similar interests as you. It’s also a good way to find a community of people who are trying to learn similar things or just hang out. So far I’ve enjoyed using it and I haven’t met questionable characters yet! (‘Cos this is NYC and the killer could be anywhere). I’ll be spending Friday aft-evening at a self-improvement meet, asking questions and having real conversations. Truth is, they had me at wine and cocktails :D
2. Ailey II Dance Company
I’d never heard of theAiley II dancers before, but the googler in me went and did some research as soon as my friend Whit suggested it. They are basically a dance company of some of the country’s most spirited and energetic young dance talent (so says The New York Times). Their tour reaches audiences in dozens of cities worldwide, and now NYC. I’ve only heard great things, so I’m looking forward to an enriching experience.
3. Take What you Need
This book by Abiola Babarinde is definitely not a one time read, as I find myself going back to it (especially this week). I picked it up this month and as God would have it, her words just fall in line with my bible study theme. Her work provides you with an overwhelming sense of calm while encouraging you to reflect on your own life and to live it intentionally. But not in a way that makes you more self-conscious (as some wellness books do). If anything, it infuses a strong sense of God-fidence that we all need - daily - especially with all the news and rapid changes we see every day.
4. The 90s Greatest
I’ve been watching docuseries back-to-back on Hulu lately, and I just started the one on the 90s era. From the music, sex and the AIDS crisis, to the price and exploitation of fame. That whole era was pack with both political and cultural revolutions. I will be curling up to that too.
What are you up to this weekend, and what do you do to unwind?
