#latepost Like, really really late!

July, the seventh month. The beginning of the second half of the year. The seventh month was hot, both literally and metaphorically, with temperatures rising to as high as 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius). I spent most of the month in auto-mode, like a ... just floating along, flitting through time without deliberate participation. It just felt like much wasn’t happening, so I kept repeating some specific words from Morgan Harper Nichols.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Fashion

A lot of black & white, and a lot of Me! I sewed a lot in July and I wore a lot of my own stuff. It feels so good, and I noticed that I’m getting better at it. Now, all that is left is trying out those skills on someone else. I’m also very closely hitting a “practicality is greater than fashion phase.’ My taste in shoes are changing. More block heels, less stilettos. I can’t! I just can’t! At least not until I get a car. 😉

Listening

If this has been a test, I cannot see the reason. But maybe knowing I don’t know is part of getting through. I tried to do what’s best, but faith has made it easy to see the best thing I can do is put my trust in you…I’ll let go of the need to know why, for you know better than I…” - You Know Better Than I from the Dreamworks movie Joseph: King of Dreams has been on repeat from me. I’m going through it! 😄 I absolutely love the story of Joseph, and the soundtrack of this movie brings the heart of the story to life. It’s old, but it brings me peace.

Reading

I found a very talented romance author called Emma Hart (I read/watch a LOT of romance🥰), and I’ve been through five of her books already. Her characters are fun and hilarious, even the ridiculously fictional ones. I continued lugging around TD Jakes’ Crushing. It’s almost always in my bag wherever I go. With its strong, purposeful and encouraging words, I’ve found it to be a good companion. #notanAd Apart from that, I’ve been reading the Book of Ruth and going over the love story - seeing Jesus in the relationship between Ruth and Boaz. Also, seeing how vital it is to trust, rest and STAY  CONSCIOUS of God’s favor and love.

Goals For August

By the beginning of August, I glanced at my planner but it was basically empty, with the exemption of routine weekly activities, light blue sticky notes with red pen scrawls on them reminding me of dates with friends and upcoming birthdays. I tried making a list of all the things I’ve got to do this month, but it was so overwhelming that I closed the planner and sighed. So, what are my goals for the 8th month?

NOTHING!

It’s honestly not what I’d recommend for anyone else on the fly, but you have to know yourself and know what you need at certain times. I honestly just want to get through the month in one piece; keep on keeping on. Not very lofty aspirations here, I know! I’m still working though, but I’m trying to be more intentional with my rest and work periods.

WHAT AM I GRATEFUL FOR?

  • Seeing the people I love go after what they dreamed of doing. S/O to Yinka on launching her podcast ToldbyOlay, and my baby brother for going hard with the launch of his YouTube channel RDCYF.

  • All the things I’m learning and the non-part “parts” of me that are slowly falling away.

  • The opportunity to do my first brand collaboration, that I can’t wait to share.

  • My siblings who I share a small - minute, tiny - studio apartment with. They make the hard days not so hard.

  • Finally, I’m grateful for hope!

I can’t wait for December when I’ll do a year-in-review post because IT’S GOING TO BE A HEAVY ONE! Good heavy through, not burdensome. For now, here’s to August, and the remaining half of the year. It’ll be great.

I wish you a blissful month ahead!❤️
