Review: The Body by Stephen King

Book: The Body

The Body is a coming-of-age novella by Stephen King that was adapted into the 1986 classic film "Stand By Me." I didn't know this connection until I decided to read the book, so I went in without preconceptions.

Set in the summer of 1960 in a small town, this historical fiction follows Gordie and his group of 12- to 13-year-old friends who embark on an adventure to find a missing boy's body. Along the way, we learn about each boy's struggles with trauma and dysfunctional family situations. It's a nostalgic, introspective, and quick read—perfect for summer.

This book had been on my TBR for a long time—published before I was born—so I'm glad I finally got to read it this summer and cross it off my list. It was even quicker to read than I Know What You Did Last Summer.
