DIY Mini Dress with Feather Trim

Project | DIY Mini Dress with Ostrich Feather Trim

Simplicity Vintage Pattern 7072

I do take my work SERIOUSLY, and the way to do that is not to take yourself TOO SERIOUSLY
— alan rickman

This dress is an update to this one, using the same simplicity vintage pattern as a base.

I made this for my birthday last year, and absolutely love how it came out. Just FYI: there's a difference between a feather trim and a feather boa. I initially ordered a feather trim but to get this exact look, you want to order a boa and use it as a "trim". This is the one I used.

Here are my measurements, if you need the reference:

Size 14

Bust 34" | Waist 28" | Hips 38"

Height: 5'7"

Materials

For this project, I used:

  • 2 yards of ankara fabric

  • 2 meters of Ostrich feather trim

  • Simplicity Vintage Pattern 7072

  • A long zipper (preferably an invisible one if you have it)

  • Sewing pins and fabric scissors

  • Measuring tape/ruler

  • Tailor's chalk or fabric marker

  • A sewing machine and iron
