A Casual Edge – How to Style Blazers & Jeans

Okay, I’m kinda running off of my previous post (find here) on matching sets. I made a point that with suit/blazer sets “there are endless ways to play with the matching separates for any occasion”, and an easy way to start is to wear with a pair of jeans instead.

So I was a teacher for a short while, and for most of that time, I practically lived in blazers – through different weather conditions if I may add. I live in New York City and depending on the season, the weather can be very bipolar; going from scalding hot on some days to ass-freezing cold the next. But you know what’s comfortable to wear in either situation? A blazer! Pair them with jeans instead of pants and you’ll be effortlessly chic and ready to go to school, church, a meeting, a date, an intro to future in-laws, whatever. It just works!

I know these days we’re moving really fast (although, I don’t know where to) so work-to-play outfits are always a good idea to have in your arsenal.

Here you go:

Tips

Dress up or down: Go with a pair of sneakers and a plain/graphic tee for comfort or a simple, super casual look. I personally would prefer dressing things up with a lace camisole and pair of heels (preferably with ankle straps) for a feminine but powerful look at the same time. But take the time to find what works for you.

Seasons: This is no problem at all. Blazers and jeans work in all seasons in my opinion. The trick? Layers! Layers!! Layers!!! When fall/winter comes, get out the boots, scarves and jackets. You can always swap the camisoles and t-shirts for sweaters and turtlenecks. Just have fun with it!

Colors and Patterns: I think everyone should have at least oneblack blazer (you know, just in case) but don’t be scared to try bold colorsand pattered blazers. I’m thinking of trying plaid or checkered. When I do you’llbe the first to know.
