Color Combinations | How to Style Red and Pink Outfit
I learnt very early that wearing red and pink together was a fashion mistake, kind of like mixing prints or wearing a gold/silver combo, but these days all sorts of fashion “rules” are being broken. I tried the trend for myself this weekend and I really loved it. So, if you’re going to take the plunge (and you should) here are my suggestions for easing yourself into it:
1 - Keep it simple
Honestly, this is my own personal mantra when it comes to styling anything. I would suggest trying a maximum of 2 or 3 pieces of red and pink with the whole look. I also think its wise to start with smaller pieces like shoes or a purse that make up the outfit.
2 - Mix and match in solids
I don’t think all combinations of pink and red mesh well. I find that the best combos are BRIGHT PINK WITH TRUE RED or DEEP/TRUE RED WITH BLUSH/PASTEL PINK. When in doubt, go with solid bold colors to get an intentionally good-looking outfit. Overall, fashion is about experimenting so have fun with the colors.
3 – Try a premixed print
If you don’t have solid colors, another option would be to try a color blocked piece that has already done the work. Whether it be stripes, animal prints, ginghams; adding or accessorizing with prints make for a more fun and vibrant outfit.
4 – Combine with neutral colors
Red and pink already make bold statements, so adding neutral colors like black, white, beige or denim brings the whole look together
5 – Infuse other bold colors
I mean, really, if you’re going to break the rules, you mayas well color way outside the lines.
For my outfit, I chose to go with a black top paired with a deep red skirt and bright pink shoes, with a black tote purse.
