2022 | Starting Slow

Let me officially wish you a Happy New Year!

This has been the slowest start to a year that I’ve ever had. Usually I’m up to my elbow in goals and tasks I want to accomplish. But honestly, I spent most of January making sure that I was done with 2021 and well-rested - fully prepared for all of 2022. I found Christmas and the month of December to be pretty overwhelming. I took on a lot - decorating, filming, editing, cooking; all while working a 9-5. It was so much fun, and I’m glad I had January to reset and start slow.

What do I mean by starting slow?

For one, I’m not elbow-deep in plans for the year. I’ve split my goals into four quarters and I’ll plan and execute - and re-strategize when necessary. Now, I do have an overarching vision for the whole year (I’ll share my vision board with you soon), but I start to get overwhelmed when I plan too far ahead.

I’ve set my intentions for the first quarter of the year, but I’m letting the year be whatever it’s meant to be - and I have a feeling it’s going to be an amazing year.

Here are the words I held dear for most of January. They helped me. I hope they do the same for you:

Leave your worries by the shore line
And run your bare feet through the sand
Let the water be a soft bed
When you cannot bear to stand
Make friends with flying seagulls
And hold the sun up on your palm
Before you duck beneath the water
Where the world is mute and calm
Tell the fish all of your problems
As they all come swimming pass
When your lungs are close to bursting
Swim above the waves and gasp
Let the water hold your sadness
And wash it right out to the sea
So like a message in a bottle
All your worries are set free
And the sea might make you feel alone
But the world has troubles too
For how else do you suppose
That the ocean got so blue?
— e.h.

Whatever it is that you need to help make the year (or just the next month tbh) less overwhelming and joyful - do that. If you don’t know what that is, then you should take some time to figure that out.

Either way,

I hope your year is off to a great a great start

I hope you’ll also pace yourself

I pray you’ll be kind to yourself

I hope you’ll remember that you don’t owe it to ANYBODY to stay the same

Change if you want. Be present. Start slow if you want. Go fast if you want. Take up space.

Don’t make yourself uncomfortable for the comfort of others - that’s not smart 😉

You’ve got this!
